Red Sun (1971) – Even dubbed, Mifune completely owns this otherwise mediocre western that features an unimpressively smug and smarmy Bronson and an outdated, stereotypically racist depiction of Indians. 6

Blade Runner (1982) – I have never tried harder to like a film – I love the book, I like the look, and I like Harrison Ford, but it’s uninvolving and uncompelling. 5

DeepStar Six

DeepStar Six (1989) – An insultingly bad movie full of very stupid characters - the monster doesn't do much, and it doesn't have to – if you substituted monkeys for these characters, most of them would have survived; no, seriously, they say things like, “What'll happen when the reactor goes supercritical?” – and these people work for the U.S. military? and why are there shotguns? and why does the decompression chamber need to pressurize before they get in it? ugh. 2

Drag Me to Hell

Drag Me to Hell (2009) – Come on, Sam Raimi: this is cheesy, tiresome, ham-fisted, unoriginal and irritating; why am I supposed to care about this girl, exactly? 2

The Devil’s Tomb (2009) – Vile, pointless and egregiously stupid; Cuba Gooding, Jr. must be on hard times indeed. 2

Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) – Clunks along in a mildly satisfying manner; the score is good, but Baird was a bad choice to direct; we could have used a better villain – or at least one without puffy shoulder pads; why did they have to screw with Worf’s voice? and what, again, is Worf doing here? 6

Star Trek: Insurrection

Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) – Quite good, although it’s a bit slow at times and it feels like a multi-part TV episode; this one continues the proud Trek tradition of populating Starfleet with out-of-control crazy admirals; how, exactly, did Worf get here? 7

Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: First Contact (1996) – Like the best Trek movies, it has good action, good humor, and plenty of those great little character moments; Patrick Stewart is amazing. 7

Star Trek: Generations

Star Trek: Generations (1994) – The story is uneven but enjoyable (the same gaping temporal plot holes as Abrams’ new Trek aside); the lighting for all the Enterprise-D shots is way off; Kirk deserved better, and so did the Enterprise-D; Data is incredibly annoying, but actually, it is funny when he pushes Dr. Crusher overboard; I was wrong about Final Frontier – this is the worst Trek of them all. 6
