The Spiral Staircase (1946) – It’s got some good atmosphere,
and Dorothy McGuire does a commendable job in a role with no dialogue, but
while it’s got plenty of mystery, it doesn’t do near as well with suspense; it’s
also got a lot of clichéd elements – none more so than the reveal at the end. 6
