Elysium (2013) – In spite of this film’s tiresome shakycam action scenes, I like Blomkamp decently well as a director—but not particularly as writer, as the economics in this world make as little sense as many of the significant plot points, and the frequently juvenile script addresses social themes like illegal immigration and the Occupy movement with sledgehammer subtlety. 5
