Batman and Robin (1949)

Batman and Robin
(1949) – Batman’s fatter than ever, and there’s still no Batmobile (“Batman, you borrowed Bruce Wayne’s car – that’s totally unsuspicious!”) – he looks like some poor schlub on the way to a Halloween party in a homemade costume; we’ve got a vehicle-commandeering device that runs on diamonds, a batsignal that works in the daytime, and a Batman who doesn’t notice that the crippled scientist is suddenly walking around in episode 14 – and these are only the beginning of the not-sense this serial makes; this, more than anything, is what Adam West's Batman was making fun of; in this serial’s defense, it does, at least, keep the mystery going. 5
