The Bad News Bears (1976) – It stands above the glut of
watered-down kids’ sports movies with its believable flawed characters, general
avoidance of undue sentimentality, good jobs from most of the kid actors, and some
surprisingly hard-edged social commentary on competition; it also has quite a
few funny lines. 7
